WICF SafePolicy Program
Does your tournament, club or federation have the policies in place to protect those who attend your events? Work with the Women in Chess Foundation to receive the WICF SafePolicy Badge.
The Women in Chess Foundation SafePolicy Badge is a mark of distinction for any chess event or organisation. This certificate serves as a testament to your commitment to prioritising safety, inclusion, and fair play. It's not just a symbol; it's a promise to your participants and stakeholders.
While we can't guarantee any tournament to be 100% safe, we are dedicated to implementing processes that provide support in the face of unforeseen events. The WICF SafePolicy Program goes beyond traditional safety measures. It focuses on proactive planning and response strategies, ensuring that chess events become spaces where everyone can thrive.
What Sets Us Apart:
1. Collaborative Approach: We work closely with chess clubs, tournaments, and federations, tailoring our program to meet the unique needs of each organisation. By fostering collaboration, we empower you to create a SafePlay environment that aligns with your values.
2. Chess Centered Comprehensive Guidelines: Our certification program goes beyond the basics, offering comprehensive guidelines rooted in real world experience in the chess world that address various aspects of safety.
Documents We Develop:
1. Code of Conduct:
Develop a code of conduct that sets clear expectations for participants, organizers, and volunteers. Address issues such as sportsmanship, respectful behavior, and consequences for violations. This document can serve as a foundation for maintaining a positive and safe chess environment.
2. Safety Checklist:
Develop a checklist that organizers can use to assess and address safety measures before, during, and after an event. This could include venue inspections, equipment checks, and communication protocols. A checklist provides a tangible tool for organizers to ensure they are meeting safety standards.
3. Tournament SafePlay Handbooks:
Create a detailed handbook outlining your SafePlay guidelines. Include information on tournament organization, venue safety, participant well-being, and emergency procedures. Provide clear instructions and examples to help clubs and federations implement these guidelines effectively.
2. Ongoing Support: Our commitment doesn't end with certification. We provide ongoing support, keeping you updated on the latest safety protocols and offering assistance whenever needed. Together, we can continuously improve and adapt to evolving challenges.
4. Child Protection Policy:
If your events involve minors, create a child protection policy that emphasizes the organization's commitment to ensuring a safe environment for young participants. Clearly define procedures for handling allegations of misconduct and conducting background checks for staff and volunteers working with minors.
5. Incident Reporting Form:
Create a standardized incident reporting form that organizers can use to document any safety-related incidents. This form should include details such as the date, time, location, individuals involved, and a description of the incident while also allowing for anonymity. Encourage timely reporting to facilitate a swift and appropriate response.
6. Communication Plan:
Develop a communication plan that outlines how organizers will communicate with participants, parents, and relevant authorities in case of emergencies or other important situations. Include templates for communication and guidelines on when and how to disseminate information.
