The WICF-Chessable Scholars Program aims to be an annual initiative established by the Women in Chess Foundation to empower and advance junior girls in the chess community.

This program aims to foster a supportive and enriching environment where 10 talented young female players can receive expert guidance and resources to enhance their chess skills and competitive performance.

This program is for young girls that are passionate about chess but are on the cusp of the top competitive tier. We are aiming to inspire and prepare participants for potential careers in chess, fostering long-term dedication.

What does the program entail?

Our program will provide 10 girls (5 girls U2000 and 5 girls 2000+) specialized resources, mentorship, and training to help participants improve their skills and reach the next level of their chess career.

How long is the program?

The program is planned to take place completely remotely from October 2024 to December 2024 via Chessable Classroom. Each group will receive weekly training sessions during these three months, which are expected to take place on either a Saturday or Sunday

Classes will be divided into an U2000 and a 2000+ class, with 5 girls being chosen for each class.

How does coaching work?

Each group will have a main coach, and also be taught by special guest coaches such as Ho Yifan and Judit Polgar. There is an expectation that scholars will attend 75% of scheduled classes. In addition to training sessions, WICF-Chessable Scholars will be rewarded with 3 Chessable courses. Classes will be taught in English, therefore proficiency in English is required.

Can anyone apply?

This program is only for girls ages 8-18 years old with a minimum ELO of 1600-1700 and maximum ELO of 2200.

*Exception are willing to be considered in cases where legitimate references can corroborate a situation where higher level of chess is being played by the scholar relative to official ELO or online ratings.
